Notes:
Average
The sum of all values entered divided by the number of values found. If a number was not entered on the questionnaire, it is not included in the average.
Standard Deviation (SD)
A measure of how spread out the values are. A SD of zero means that all the values were the same. For normal distributions, 68.27% of all values are expected in the range AVERAGE ± SD and 95.45% of values are expected in the range AVERAGE ± 2*SD.
So, if the range of values is 1 to 5, and the average is 3 with a SD of 0.5 then 95.45% of values lie in the range 2 to 4, BUT if the SD is 1, only 68.27% lie in the range 2 to 4. A small SD means that more people have similar views than for a large SD.
